Thank You, MS Dhoni aka Captain Cool

The man I'm going to talk about today needs no introduction. MS Dhoni (or Captain Cool) is one of the finest leaders any team can have. I wouldn't waste any of your time by writing his biography. You can find that on Wikipedia.

Early carrier

When he started his career, he was just another boy who wanted to hit every ball out of the stadium. Now he comes to bat at 6th or 7th position and bats according to the situation. So why did he change?

Controversies

When he was made the ODI captain instead of Rahul Dravid, everyone went overboard to criticise that move by BCCI. After all, cricket is like a religion in India:


And Dravid is like a cult figure without any doubt. That year, he was also selected to lead the Indian team for the T20 World Cup. Eliminating senior players from the team, keeping his favourite players even when they didn't perform, sure, controversies have always circled around him. But those controversies didn't affect his captainship one bit. 

Winning matters

He had an experienced spinner but he chose a medium spinner to bowl the final over of the final match of the World Cup against arch-rival Pakistan. Everyone (including me) thought that he had lost his mind. We all know what happened next. That's when everyone started to admire his captainship.

Trophies

He gave us Asia cup, Champions Trophy, made us number 1 in the test rankings. He led India to win the ODI Cricket World Cup after 1983. He scored a magnificent 91 runs in the final match. Can you ever in your life forget:

Guiding youngsters

You can see any photo of Indian team after winning a tournament under his captainship and you'll see him standing in the back, paving the way for other team-mates to celebrate the moment. There's an English proverb 'Be the king-maker, not the king.' He successfully became a king-maker.

Today when you praise Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma or Ashwin for performing so well:


Then you should praise the man behind them as well. He was the one who made BCCI select younger players for the team. Don't be angry but be thankful to Mahendra Singh Dhoni for that.

Kohli will no doubt take the Indian team to new heights but can we expect the same ice-cool temper from him in the field? Our captain cool, MS Dhoni will always be remembered as a great leader.

Railway Ticket Vending Machine - A Frustrating Experience

I'm a college-goer from West Bengal. Demonetization didn't affect me one bit as I was used to online transactions, PayTM way before they were cool. Let me share a frustrating incident today.

Today, when I left for college from home, I noticed that my monthly ticket had expired and my R-wallet (UTS app from Indian Railways) balance was also zero. So I went to the ticket counter at Uttarpara station (District - Hooghly) to purchase a 10 rupees ticket. I couldn't buy a return ticket as I had no extra small denominations.

My college is at Chinsurah. While coming back from college, I quickly boarded a train only to realize that I had no return ticket. So I got down at the next station, Chandannagar. I went to the automatic ticket vending machine to buy my ticket. I completed all the procedure but my ticket didn't come out even after inserting the money.

So I went to the man sitting behind the ticket counter. He said that it had happened with him also and there's no way I could get my money back. All they could do was to complain to those who operate these machines.

So I had to buy another ticket from the counter. I didn't mind those 10 rupees. But to some people, even a single rupee matters. And this incident can happen to anybody.

I don't know whether Railways operates these machines or not. But when our PM is talking about using technology and POS machines are being installed at metro stations then why this type of incident occurs even now? I know PM isn't to be blamed in this case, I just took his name for giving an example. Railways should look into this matter.

Happy New Year - United By Celebration

We've left another year behind us. The past year maybe was filled with sadness, depression, anger, anxiety, happiness or whatever. But hey, past is the past, right? Start the new year freshly.

Don't make the same mistakes for which the past year was a living hell for you. Repeat the same decisions this year again if 2016 left you with joy and pleasure. No matter how sad were you at the night of 31st, didn't those "Happy New Year" messages made you smile a little bit?

Problems we face

We're teenagers. Problems tend to rise rapidly at this stage of our life:


Many of us have got our heart broken in 2016. I've a solution for you too. Many people have left this world in 2016. Just think of the situations of their dearest ones. On the contrary, you're still able to see your friends and the rising sun on the first day of the year. Your situation is much better, ain't so?

Today is 1st January. Don't even think about going all gaga over the "new year, new me" slogan:

Because You don't have to get yourself rebranded every year. Just do what makes you happy.

New Year messages

We all receive messages from people who don't even talk to us for the rest of the year. But that's the beauty of an event. It brings people in touch with each other after a long time. It unites us. Celebrate the togetherness.

Last but not the least, I'm starting this blog today with the help of Google Blogger. I'll try to cover a wide variety of topics. There'll be editorials too but not all of them will be as sentimental or motivational as this post.
